HOUSTON MISSION TRIP: 7/30/2017 - 8/5/2017

We sent daily summaries through our remind system of how our day went during the mission trip. Below is a summary of our last day written by Anna Zhu.

Today's the last full day of our mission! Our group went to Rainbow Housing while Group 2 did the city search. The Rainbow Housing wasn't open but two people still came, so we stayed outside and talked with them. Our original plan was explaining the Four Spiritual laws to all of the kids, but since they didn't all come we only talked to two boys named Maurice and Lavar. Some of us felt like we rushed through it while others felt like we spoke for too long that the person started to get bored. In the end though, I think we all succeeded our test of faith. After our conversation, we prayed for their spiritual growth and for their relationship with God.

Afterwards, we went to the Holocaust museum but it was closed as well. So we went to the Asia Society Center where we looked at art.

In the afternoon, we went to the Houston Food Bank while Group 2 went to Reach. The Houston Food Bank is the largest food bank in America. Our group packed canned foods into boxes and stored them away for shipping to people who lost their homes in natural disasters. It is was actually harder than we thought because some of the foods were hard to find. Also, the giant cardboard boxes containing all the cans were really tall for some of us, so we would occasionally fall in while trying to reach the bottom. (Especially the short people like me :) ) But the feeling of teamwork and feeding needy people made it all worth the hard work.

We packed a total of 6,720 pounds and 5,600 meals.

We later met at the bunks so that we could leave for dinner together. We had Mediterranean sandwiches with pita bread and hummus. We all devoured the sandwiches with minutes of getting it. It was my first time eating Mediterranean food and it was really really good.

And for the last event of the night, we debriefed about our week. We had lots of emotional moments and funny shares.

Please pray for a safe trip back home! Thanks guys!!!
